Smarter Road Travel Made Possible by MobiQ’s RSU
MobiQ’s Roadside Unit (RSU) System consists of RSU hardware integrated with the Traffic Signal Controller and the State/City agency’s network. It communicates with vehicles equipped with the Onboard Units (OBU) and other capable mobile devices using C-V2X radio systems. MobiQ's RSU also integrates well with intersections using camera and radars to detect vulnerable road users (VRUs) such as pedestrians and cyclists. The RSU can also issue real-time alerts to drivers via roadside dynamic signage messages to vehicles equipped with OBU's and heads-up displays
Functions of the RSU
.
1.
Broadcasting
MobiQ's RSU has a listening interface to receive messages sent by authorized entities such as a state/municipal/local agency traffic management center or V2I hub. The authorized entity provides immediate forward messages encoded as J2735 messages that are intended for OBUs within the RSU listening range.
Traffic Signal Controller/Cabinet
2.
Listening & Forwarding
Forwarding is the key feature for data collection. The RSU listens to specific message types, and performs no processing on received messages other than detecting the messages type. Typical messages transmitted by RSUs include SPAT, MAP messages, etc. to facilitate signal priority requests, monitor VRUs and other C-V2X related use cases.
City/Municipalities Agency Networks
3.
Mobile Device Information Routing
The RSU listens for transactions initiated by an OBU or capable mobile device and passes the data to the backend server to enable analysis of traffic patterns and other information pertinent to the traffic intersections and road corridor.
The Ability to Sense the Road Ahead
The RSU System leverages the power to listen to and broadcast information to traffic signals, OBU-equipped vehicles, roadside dynamic displays and State/City agencies to improve traffic flow, grant signal priority to authorized vehicles, deliver alerts to drivers, send traveler information to agencies and many other applications.
